Dash Cam Installation · Oakleigh South

A customer's own front and rear dash cam fitted to a BYD Sealion 6, wired through the factory tailgate conduit

Front and rear dash cam installation on a BYD Sealion 6 in Melbourne, using the camera the owner already had. The rear cable runs through the factory tailgate conduit — nothing drilled, nothing on show.

The owner of this Sealion 6 already had the dash cam. What they were paying for was the install. The front unit sits high on the windscreen behind the mirror, and the rear camera mounts at the top of the rear glass. Its cable takes the same path the car's own wiring does: through the rubber conduit that carries the factory loom from the body into the tailgate. That is the slow part of a job like this — the conduit is tight and already full — and it is also the only way the finish ends up looking like this, with no cable across the glass, nothing clipped to the trim and nothing pinched in the rubber seal. All work is backed by a one-year warranty on the installation.

01

Your own camera, fitted properly

Plenty of people buy a dash cam and then find that fitting it neatly is the hard part. We install customer-supplied units as readily as ones we sell. Worth being clear about what that covers: our one-year warranty is on the installation work, while the camera itself stays under whatever warranty it came with.

02

Rear cable through the factory conduit

The cable leaves the camera at the top of the rear glass, drops behind the tailgate trim and crosses into the body through the same rubber conduit as the factory loom. No hole was drilled and nothing was run outside the weather seal, which is what keeps water where it belongs and leaves the car exactly as it was built.

03

Slack left where the tailgate flexes

A cable crossing a tailgate has to move every time the boot opens and closes. It was left with a loop of slack inside the conduit so the movement is taken up by the cable rather than by the connector, which is where this kind of install usually fails a year later.

04

Front unit behind the mirror

The front camera sits high on the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror, above the wiper sweep and out of the driver's eyeline. Its screen was checked before handover so the owner can see for themselves that both channels are recording.

05

A new car, left as it was built

This was a near-new Sealion 6, which raises the bar: trim comes apart and goes back, cables follow factory paths, and when the job is done there is nothing to see from the driver's seat but the camera itself.
