12.3 inches, on a Linux system
The screen fills the factory position on top of the dash. It runs on a Linux system rather than the usual Android, and it stays quick and smooth in use.
A 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA fitted with a 12.3-inch screen running Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with the factory system still on it, plus colour ambient lighting along the dash, the front doors and the footwells, set from a phone over Bluetooth. At our Oakleigh South workshop in Melbourne. $1,950 fitted all up.
This 2015 CLA came in for two things: a bigger screen and ambient lighting. The 12.3-inch screen sits where the factory display was and runs on a Linux system, which keeps it quick and smooth to use. Its home screen offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and AirPlay, and the factory Mercedes system is still there under OEM Car Info. The lighting runs along the dash and both front doors and lights the footwells. It's set from a phone over Bluetooth, in any colour, with a choice of lighting effects. All work is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and installation.
All four doors and the rear footwells as well: $1,150 for the lighting. Today’s prices for the same work, including GST.

02
OEM Car Info on the home screen opens the CLA's own system, so nothing the car already had is lost. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and AirPlay sit beside it.
03
A line of light follows the trim across the dash and into both front doors, and the footwells glow to match.
04
The lighting is controlled over Bluetooth from a phone: any colour you like, or one of the lighting effects.

Ambient lighting is $850 for the dash, the front doors and the front footwells, or $1,150 with the rear doors and the rear footwells as well.
